Principal's Welcome

On behalf of the entire school community, I want to welcome you to our school website.

As you browse through it, you will develop an understanding of our heritage and our history to date, how it has influenced our development as a school community as it presently exists and our purpose and plans for the future.

Since our doors opened in September 1990, Mountmellick Community School has served the educational needs of the teenagers of the town, the parish and neighbouring parishes. The healthy mix of students from both the town and the country contributes to a very special atmosphere in our school and one that has been commented on by students, Parents and visitors alike.

The manner in which all of our actions are connected back to our Mission Statement and our school motto ensure that values of respect, inclusion, care and development are at the centre of all that we do. This contributes significantly to the warm, welcoming and happy atmosphere in our school where all students can develop their talents and abilities in an environment where they feel safe, valued and respected as individuals.

As a progressive school we are constantly looking at new and better ways of delivering education to the students in our care. New subjects, new programmes, new methodologies, new approaches, new extra & co-curricular activities and the embracing of constant educational change has led to significant growth not just in student numbers but also growth in the service we provide to the community.

While we take great pride on the outstanding academic achievement of our students, it is not all that we do. We are committed to the development of the whole person and all of their talents. Our broad range of extra and co-curricular activities enable students to become involved in activities outside of the classroom, to find an area they like, to make new friends, to enhance their sense of belonging, to improve their self-confidence and self-worth and ultimately to develop values and a skillset that they will bring with them to the next phase of their life when they eventually leave our care.

As a school community, we are committed to maintaining the very high standards that we have set in our school and incrementally raising the standards when and where appropriate.
